I visited this church in 2016. It was right in the middle of a small town in Belgium. The access was rather hair-raising. I climbed up onto a small roof which was at basement level as the church was built into a slope. I then climbed through a very tall stained glass window backwards onto a rickety wooden ladder which had been tied together loosely. Then I had to descend 5 metres down this wobbly ladder. I was so pleased to touch the floor!
This church was built in the mid 18th century, with part of it from the Romanesque era. There was an earthquake in the 1980’s and reports of dry rot which made the property even more unstable. Renovation was unfeasible so everything except the Romanesque tower was demolished in 2017.
