This beautiful building first opened to the public in the early 1900's. It's dominating exterior overlooks the deep sea waters. This building was one of the most beautiful of the Art Nouveau movement.
Unfortunate circumstances over the 20th century saw it gradually fall into disrepair. It had many uses, including a hospital and a restaurant. It became too expensive to maintain; too elaborate for such a city at that time. It closed in the 90's.
It's remained abandoned ever since, there have been few attempts at restoration but finally in recent years a renovation project is going full steam ahead.
