This piece was born from my visit to an incredible abandoned palace after an art residency at Villa Lena in Tuscany. With fresh inspiration and new materials from the residency, I embarked on a journey of experimentation that led me to this new direction.
The work is a different method of collage. This photo was of an abandoned villa in Italy, from a noble family and then in its latter years it was owned by a chemistry teacher.
I took an existing print of this photo and cut into the image and layered in elements. Hand painted papers and stencilled papers with mediums are weaved in, blended with mediums and paint.
