This piece was born from my visit to an incredible abandoned palace after an art residency at Villa Lena in Tuscany. With fresh inspiration and new materials from the residency, I embarked on a journey of experimentation that led me to this new direction.
The work is a different method of collage. This photo was of a ruined villa in Italy, heavily affected by an earthquake. I took an existing print of this abandoned villa in Italy and cut into the image and layered in elements from the villa. Notes and wallpaper are weaved in, blended with mediums and paint. The result is a piece that weaves the villas own wallpaper and textures into the physical artwork.
