Unquestionably, this is one of the most beautifully situated villages in this valley in Poland. In this area survives one of the most valuable and largest areas of historic buildings, which consists of a church, chapels, grand farms and roadside shrines. The oldest building is this castle which dates to the late 16th century. In the basement of the current palace, some trace the relics of an older mansion, dating back to around 1460.

The years that followed the second world war marked the period of continuing degradation of the castle. Polish press reports and notices in tourist guidebooks spoke of a shocking state of disrepair of a property that was considered unfit to be visited by sightseers, its decline from lack of maintenance hastened by depredations of masonry robbers and other types of active vandalism. Anything that could be carried was stolen.

I met the owner here who has organised a trust for the castle, and he hopes for it to be renovated eventually. It is so big and expensive due to its heritage and cultural importance that it will take a long time.
