This was built in the 1930’s in an Art Deco style with Swedish influences. It is going to be converted into flats, but has faced some difficulties as it is a listed building. It is the finest surviving synagogue in Europe, as it is architecturally unique. I was interested in photographing one of the Torah scrolls which were left behind in a state of decay on the floor. I later found out from the owner (after I made a phone call concerned about them being left behind) that these scrolls were not the “real thing” and they were simply used as teaching aids for children who came to the synagogue.
